WHY SO ROWDY??
We live in a specific historical moment. For ~50 years the so called “Western World” or “Global North” has pursued a relentless strategy of neoliberal global economic policy, seeking to stretch the reach of capitalist economies to every corner of the globe. This process has been marked by ruthless neocolonialism and ecocide which have brought our societies to deeply polarized states, and our ecosystem to the brink of collapse.
Everywhere we look the prices of housing are skyrocketing, wages are stagnating in comparison to capital accumulation, climates are changing rapidly, and far-right authoritarianism is on the rise. Our leaders have proven either unwilling or unable to rise to the moment and truly do what needs to be done. This is not by accident, most of the people in power in the Global North are both complicit in the instability we are facing and profiting from it. They sit at the helm of the exact seats of power responsible for the crises.
It can be overwhelming and anxiety inducing to know what to do about it. Our entire lives we have been told to look to the government for the solutions, but they aren’t coming. But, it’s especially imperative for everyday people in the Global North to move through those feelings and into meaningful direct action for the climate and for a world truly based in the principles of freedom, equality, and solidarity.
This is not a “left” or “right” thing. Stagnant political frameworks based in European parliamentary history are inadequate and irrelevant for this moment. This is a moment for people to come together across political difference and stand up to the greedy cowards with the nuclear codes.
I started Let’s Get Rowdy for the Revolution to talk about this moment through an organizer’s lens, my lens, in the hopes that by providing both clear political analysis and my personal story for my personal stake, I can inspire people who are on the fence, or intimidated, to jump into the fray and get rowdy for the revolution. We need it, and we need you.
Who cares if you’ve never done it before? Though I have been involved in organizing for a while, I am by no means an expert. In fact, expertise is garbage. The revolution doesn’t need experts, it needs everyday people willing to fight for their futures, their families, their communities, and the future of the planet. Wisdom and experience are valuable, but fresh energy, openness to learn and new ideas are too. I fully expect that there will be times I am wrong, and times that my readers will disagree. To that I say great, show me! Those are the moments that matter, because they break us out of stagnant thinking, and bring us all closer.
I also started Let’s Get Rowdy for the Revolution because I spend most of my time organizing on a voluntary basis, and I have to pay my rent, so if you can, I would greatly appreciate any financial support you can offer!
